Wellness Sports Program
Grade 5 - 12 | Ontario
Overview The Wellness Sport Program is a fun and interactive program that uses sport and educational sessions to improve youth’s mental wellness. All of the educational content is aligned with the Ontario curriculum. Through this program, youth will learn how to advocate for their own mental health, how to develop and apply coping mechanisms and learn Black Canadian history facts
Cost: $350/session
Session Size: 30 students max
Duration: 6-8 weeks (1 session per week)

Program Description
The Wellness Sport Program is a fun an interactive
program that uses sport and educational sessions to
improve youth’
s mental wellness. All of the educational
content is aligned with the Ontario curriculum.
After participating in this program youth will:
- Gain skills to identify, develop and strengthen healthy coping mechanisms.
- Experience the creation of a safe space to discuss mental health.
- Have increased knowledge of anti-Black racism and Canadian Black history.
How it works

A4H will meet with the school contact to introduce the
organization, discuss logistics and choose dates.

A consent form is sent home for parents to sign.

Our coaches will come to the school once per week to
deliver the program over the course of 6-8 weeks.

The Wellness Sport Program can be delivered in
person or virtually.

Lesson #1
Intro to Coping Mechanisms
Students will learn what coping mechanisms are, the differences
between healthy and unhealthy coping mechanisms, and complete a sorting activity based on what they learned.
Lesson #2
Intro to Anti-Black Racism
Students will learn what anti-Black racism is, and how it affects Black Canadians. To wrap the session up, students will participate in an activity that demonstrates unconscious bias.

Lesson #3
Reflection & Journalling
Students will learn how to reflect on their own behaviour, values, and morals. They will learn about journaling, complete a self-reflection activity sheet, go over goal-setting, and set goals for themselves.

Students will learn about the
importance of positive self-talk, the impacts of gratitude, and how to challenge negative thoughts.

Substance Abuse
Students will learn about unhealthy use of substances, the effect that substances have on your mental wellness and the implications of addiction.

Students will learn about verbal and non-verbal communication, how to communicate appropriately in a
variety of situations, and how to read other people’s body language.

Financial Literacy
Students will learn about the
importance of being financially literate, and participate in budget-making scenarios that include saving for short and long-term goals with a variety of income situations.

Students will learn how to effectively manage and prioritize their time. They
will develop skills and practice these by ordering tasks and creating schedules.
